Sandbox

Abe and I went to a park the other day that had sand. He was very interested, so I finally sat him in it. He loved it and surprisingly, didn't really try to eat it. There were a few little boys from our ward there and they had a great time "burying" Abe in the sand.

In Addition...

I wanted to add to this to my last post of his 7 month birthday. After I took his pictures, I put him in his chair to watch Super Why so I could download the pictures onto the computer. I heard him start laughing and laughing. I went in to see what was so funny and apparantly I had left a container of Gerber puffs next to his chair and he'd managed to grab it, open it, dump it, and find himself hilariously funny in the effort.

Seven Month Birthday!!!

Abe had his 7 month birthday yesterday! He is getting to be so big and SO busy! He's learned how to grab things and thinks that anything in sight should be his to put into his mouth. Let me tell you how fun that is! He is eating really well and loves any table foods that we sneak to him. We were at Chili's the other night and I gave him strawberry lemonade...it was so cute to watch his expression each time I put some in his mouth. We've had to retire a lot of his baby toys because he's outgrown them. He even flipped his bouncer chair completely over the other day. He was sleeping through the night, but after almost a week of being sick and waking up in the night with a high fever, we're back a square one. Last night I let him cry, again. He only cried once though and it wasn't even loud enough to wake up Ken, so I guess that isn't too bad. Abe loves to watch other kids and play on the swings at the park. Grandma Red gave him some Gymboree bubbles (the best ever!) and he really enjoys when we play with those. It is truly amazing and a miracle to watch our little boy grow and learn. We love him so much!

Barbie Food

So, I found this great deal. Harris Teeter had Lunchable Jrs. on sale for $1.09 and I had a $0.50 coupon (which they doubled to $1.00) making them $0.09 a piece. I bought 6, figuring they'd be a good lunch or something. On Saturday, Ken asked what we should eat for lunch and I, triumphantly, pulled out my very cheap Lunchables. Ken opened one, picked up a cracker, looked at me and said, "This is Barbie food. I'm a grown man." I laughed so hard. We did eat them for lunch (it took 2 to fill me up!). Later, I was reading a magazine and came across the advertisement you see below. I guess Ken was right.

I love to Laugh!

We have been wanting to get this on film for awhile now and are so excited to have finally captured Abe's freaky laugh. He will laugh normally, but when he gets really excited...the fun begins. The first one is the short version, only 6 seconds. The second one is a longer version and one for which I must apologize because my voice sounds really stupid.

Yes, I know what you are all thinking. I'd screech like that too if someone were talking to me in a wierd-o voice like that.

Raiders of a Lost Movie

Ken found out that one of his Young Men in the ward had never seen the Indiana Jones movies (collective gasp!). He couldn't live with that knowledge, so he became the Raider of the Lost Movie and we invited him and another couple in our ward (one of whom had also never seen the show) over for a night of Indiana Jones excitement. Of course, we had to go overboard...it wouldn't have been right otherwise...

Luckily for us, we were Eygptians for the Ward's Trunk or Treat a few years back and we kept our mummy and hieroglyphics from our trunk decorations. It saved us a lot of time in decorating.

Take note of the hat on the TV and the whip on the floor in front of the TV. Those are classics.
These are my licorice "whips". I had braided a whole bunch and left them on the counter. When I came back into the room awhile later and they had completely unraveled...so here is the 2nd best option.
These are the head piece of the Staff of Ra. They were pretty tasty too. We'd also made popcorn balls dipped in chocolate. The intent was to make a cake with a Lego Indiana swinging in front of the big rock on his whip...but we only got as far as making the popcorn balls. Oh well. We had fun and everyone enjoyed the movie. It made us excited for the new one to come out!

"Abraham's" Toys

The Saturday before Mother's Day we had a fun family BBQ. Mom was in town, so we celebrated Mother's day for her with Tami, Jared, Madison, Dallin, and our good friend Aaron Terry (a.k.a. Mr. Terry). Maddie had just woke up, so Ken, Mr. Terry, and I went downstairs to play some toys with her and try to get her into her usual chipper and expressive self. After a few minutes, Maddie and I returned upstairs. About 10 minutes later, my Mom asked where Ken and Mr. Terry were. She went looking and came back with these pictures. They were "bowling" with Abe's toys. I'm sure Ken can't wait until robots, super heroes, and remote control cars come into the picture...for Abe to play with, of course.

$20, Sleep, a real DATE!, and Mother's Day!

I have a lot to blog about. First of all, I put a pair of pants on the other day that I haven't worn since before I was pregnant with Abe. I was very excited to find this in the pocket!

Don't you love it when that happens???

A sleepy update...Abe is definately getting the hang of things. We've had a few nights where I've had to get up and put the paccy in his mouth, but for the most part he's sleep from 9:00 - 6:00, then eating and sleeping until 7:30 or 8. I can definately live with this! This is a picture from when he fell asleep in his high chair eating dinner...this kid can sleep anywhere!!!

On Friday, my Mom came over and stayed with Abraham so Ken and I could go on a date! It was really exciting. We left him around 4:45 and headed to dinner and a movie. We ate at Carolina Ale House (the BEST fries ever!) and then saw Iron Man (we both really enjoyed it, but it was a little on the violent side)

Finally, my first Mother's Day! Ken took my mom and I to the Golden Corral breakfast buffet on Saturday morning (which was delcious and fun until Abe gagged on a piece of banana and puked everywhere). He also bought me a bouquet of yellow roses!! My favorite! On Sunday, his meetings were cancelled and he made me breakfast and dinner while I got to clip coupons and play on Mom's Nintendo DS. It was a really nice day. I love being a mom and Abe is the best little guy...I mean look at that face...how can you not love a smile like that??

VICTORY!!!

One week ago today, the doctor said to give it a week....letting Abraham cry at night and not get him or nurse him. The night before last, Abe slept from 8:30 - 5. I did hear a few single yells from him, but no crying. Then last night, he slept from 9 - 6!!! Peacefully, no sound, no yells, no cries, nothing! Hooray! I know we may still have some bad nights, but I think we're definately on the right track...oh how I love to sleep undisturbed!

Growing UP...

Here are some pictures of Abe that I couldn't resist posting. The first is him eating his first biter biscuit! He loved it and he demolished it! The second is a new bath toy, a little water resistant book. I thought it was so cute to see him "reading" in the tub, one of my favorite past times!!

I love that you can see his cute little bottom teeth in this picture!!

This is so yummy! and messy!!

It looks like he's reading outloud to me...He's not quite to that point yet!

Rub-a-dub-dub....my handsome guy in the tub!!

6 Month Birthday!!!

I know this is the standard first sentence for all his birthday posts, but I can't believe another month has flown by! My little baby is half a year old! We just had our 6 month appointment and he actually lost some weight. He is now just over 20 lbs and in the 90% for weight. He is 28 inches long, which is also the 90% for height. He is rolling over like a champion now and sitting up for long periods of time. He loves to eat and has started on some simple finger foods. We've decided to take the doctor's advice and stop feeding him during the night. He's woken up once a night the last two nights and taken about 30 - 45 minutes to put himself back to sleep. The doctor said it should only take a week until he's sleeping on his own! Let's hope! He is still just a smiley, giggly baby and we love him lots!
