The Price of Fame

On Facebook there is a game you can play called Chain Rxn. It is a fairly simple and brainless game and Ken and I will both occasionally play it. While I was at book club on Tuesday, Ken sat down and played a game. He ended up with over 99 million points. Yes, you heard me right, in fact, he was close to 100 million. We both thought it was pretty cool, but didn't think more of it, until the fan mail began to arrive the next day. Apparently he is in the top 3 scores in the world with that game. If you go into the game on Facebook and hit top scores, you'll see us there! We've had over 10 people send us messages asking us for tips and hints (we don't have much to offer them) and several friend requests. We've had people from several countries including: Turkey, Italy, Isreal, India, and the United States, contact us. Most of their requests are pretty humorous. For your entertainment, here are some of my favorites.

*hey congrats..ur among da champion of chain reaction..btw its raj here 4m new delhi india.. hey cn yu pls do me a favor...??cn yu pls temme me som tricks to score mor on dis game..ma personal highest z jus 45 million..i need to score arnd 50/60..so cn yu gimme som tips or tricks to follow...

*what's up kim? hope u ok!i just wanna ask if u can do something for me.. i want u to play the chain rxn or whatever..the balls game on facbook with my user.. p-l-e-a-s-e!! :) answer me when u can..thanx (seriously, you'll give me your password and username just to get a high score, that you didn't actually get?)

*hi.how r u?can u help me chain rxn game?:)u take best score..how u take this score?:)if u help me take you/

*You look like a nice girl. perhaps will tell me how you did it on chain run? Is it just all luck or is there skill and if there is skill what am I looking for to start? Please help out an old man, thanks. (if all else fails, go with flattery and guilt trips)

I felt bad for all these people who obviously care very much about their score in a silly game, so I responded to them all. I wrote a small paragraph basically telling them that it is 95% luck and to start the reaction in the corner in the high levels and good luck. Several wrote back expressing their thanks and surprise that I actually wrote them. Here is my favorite 2nd response.

*hmm ok friend..thanks for u help i will try...:)

Immediate friends, isn't that really what facebook is all about?

I've never played that game, but it sounds like one I would totally get addicited to. It is so funny that people actually sent you messages. Hilarious!

for a long time the highest I could get was 15M. I even did the "start in the corner" trick. Then I asked Bryan how he got such high scores and he said, "Start in the corner." After that I've gotten really high scores. I'm convinced Bryan is my good luck charm! But I'm nowhere NEAR 99M!

That's just awesome.

Well, I guess if you have to be famous for something, it may as well be Facebook.
