Books and Brothers

I love to read. I really love to read. It is a joy to me to see my children love to be read to. Lately Abraham has learned that he knows how to "read", meaning he's memorized several books word for word. When it comes to bedtime and books are being chosen, he often tells us that he'll "read" that one to Tyler and then they sit and read it together. How cute is that?
Especially sweet considering that the picture below is a more normal way to find these two brothers.

That's adorable! And totally how I learned to read, too. Smart kid.

People would ask me how I taught Eric to read so early, and I would answer "He taught himself. I just facilitated a little." Some people assumed I was an evil super-control freak forcing him into repetitive drills with flashcards. Hardly.

Your picture reminds me of the time Jon and I bribed Eric, then age 4, to read a Richard Scary book to Danny, then age 2, so we could finish preparing Thanksgiving dinner. I do have a picture of that somewhere, but I can't find it right now.

Anyway, go Abe!
